The MicroLathe II is a machine you don't have to baby. It is a rugged and precision machine. The MicroLathe II has a machined, ground and stabilized steel bed. It has two sealed ball bearings in its spindle, coupled with a six speed positive vee belt drive. The spindle speeds are set in a geometric progression from 525 to 5200 RPM. A precision machine with the capabilities to 'HOG' 1/8 inch cuts in mild steel yet 'Dust' a few tenths, make the MicroLathe II a very versatile machine. One of the few other small machine tools produced in the USA, the Taig is made in Arizona. Like the Sherline, it is also based on about the same size as the old Unimat. The tailstock uses a quill feed for rapid drilling (but without micrometer control) and the headstock has T-slots in the extrusion for mounting fixtures or indicators. To keep costs down, the basic lathe is available with or without a motor. Taig also makes a milling machine. The top tool measures .06" wide at the tip and is used to cut center section of the round bearings. The bottom tool is a boring bar used to bore out the inside diameter of bearings and axle holes.
